Dear Friends and Supporters of Missouri Prison Books!
Thank you so much for supporting Missouri Prison Books this year and last.
The good news is that we managed to stay open and send thousands of books to our readers inside these past two years. We are immensely thankful for your donations of books and money that kept us going with a small group of core volunteers.
The bad news is that people in prisons are among those most at risk of contracting COVID-19. Facilities with close and overcrowded quarters and poor sanitation conditions spell disaster during a pandemic.
In addition to suffering high infection rates, readers inside are also faced with reduced essential services. Libraries that were often under–resourced to begin with are now closed, visiting hours are cut to a bare minimum, and programs helping the incarcerated to stay connected with and support their loved ones continue to be largely suspended.
Requests for our services in the meantime increased by more than fifty per cent in 2021.
While we sent just over 600 packages equaling more than 1800 books in 2020, we are presently at 860 packages sent with about two months left in the year. By the end of 2021 we will have sent close to 3000 books to our readers.
Here is how you can continue to help us grow: Tell your friends, colleagues, and neighbors about us. Check out our display at Subterranean Books in the Loop. Take a look at our wish list.
